A new kind of adventure (1 comment)

How many people get a chance in their adult lives to start over from scratch? My guess is not that many, and Justin and I are among the lucky ones. Nothing has been incredibly easy in this transition back into "real life." We've been dependent on the generosity of others (not easy for either of us), we've had to be extremely patient (not easy for me), and we've had to break every perception of what life has to look like. Sometimes I feel like I could write a book on our experience over the past six months, but, I have an attention span problem and it'd just end up with the outlines of the other 4 books I've started to write...

One day at a time (5 comments)

Well, this has been quite an adventure so far...When we set off back in April, we knew the road would be full of surprises and that we wold probably encounter an obstacle or two. I remember the first town we stopped in Back in April -- Hiawasee, GA. We stayed at a beautiful little hostel called The Blueberry Patch...Gary, the owner, ran the hostel as a free ministry to hikers. During our visit there for a day, we talked to SO many people that had thru-hiked the Appalachian trail in years before...And in every story, we heard about the unexpected things that happened along the way. With every story we were told "just take it one day at a time...

i THINK we can... i THINK we can...

Well, the day has come once again. Currently, Justin and I are buzzing around the second floor of my parents home in New Jersey getting things situated to leave the comforts of modern life and step back out into the untamed wilderness and start walking north. If you need some refreshing, here's a quick synopsis: Some time in 2009 we decided to Thru-Hike the Appalachian Trail, as we were dreaming of our trip we felt we needed to bring awareness to something that meant a lot to us. We learned about charity: water in this time and knew that this was a cause that we could really support and we had a ton of faith in the organization...
